How do I make a claim for Workers' Compensation Benefits?

To make a claim for workers' compensation all you need to do is to contact Workcover Queensland



You can of course also advise your treating doctor that you wish to make a workers' compensation claim in relation to your work injury and, in some cases, they will have Application forms available for you to complete at the doctor's rooms.

Many medical practices will even assist you to complete the form and fax or email it to WorkCover Queensland on your behalf.  


An application for workers' compensation can also be made through your employer 

Your employer is obliged to lodge your Application for Workers' Compensation with WorkCover Queensland once it is delivered to them, and within 4 days.  

If your employer does not do so, or is being obstructive in respect to you making a workers' compensation claim, you are quite entitled to contact WorkCover Queensland yourself regarding your workers' compensation claim.


Please note that there are strict time limits

Please note that there are strict time limits on making an application for workers' compensation benefits under the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003.

A worker has six months from becoming aware of his or her injury to make such Application.

It is only in very special circumstances that this time limit will be extended (e.g. your only become aware of the full extent of your injury or rehabilitation needs, many months after your work accident).
